MY TRAINING RUN RECORD NOW STANDS AT 11 DAYS
In order to keep my Personal Training Run Challenge of seeing how many 13.1 Mile Training Runs I can run consecutively, I jumped on the Santa Fe Trail last night and waltzed into the record books by running my 11th Training Run distance of 13.1 Miles. The "Man On The Moon" provided me with plenty of moonlight as I made my way down the Santa Fe Trail located in Monument, Colorado running towards Palmer Lake, Colorado. It was another clear evening which provided a great opportunity for more star gazing as well as gazing at the bright moon that was positioned right over the front range mountain tops. The outside temperature started to drop very quickly as I began to run and the wind started to get a tab nippy as I made my way to Palmer Lake.
My 13.1 Mile training run was very uneventful until I noticed down the trail aways in the darkness what appeared to be another runner headed right towards me. This big runner was not wearing a headlamp but I could tell the runner was heading right towards me on the same side of the Santa Fe Trail. As the unidentified trail runner started to get closer and closer I decided it was time to switch to the other side of the trail to avoid running in to each other. Then in a split second, the runner's eyes started to glow a bright color and with the grace of a gazelle leaped off the trail and scampered across the open prairie disappearing into the darkness. Phew...That wasn't a runner but one of the biggest Deer that I have ever seen on the Sant Fe Trail. The Deer must have been attracted to my headlamp because it was heading right towards me and for awhile made no indication that it was going to change the line it was taking down the path. Then once we got within about 50 feet of each other, the Deer decided he had enough of the glowing object that was coming down the path right towards him/her and swiftly dashed back into the Palmer Lake wilderness.
I have now come to the conclusion that there is never a dull moment on the Santa Fe Trail at night. Especially when you are running around the Palmer Lake Loop and you get to smell all of those delicious Cheese Burgers being grilled across the street at several different Palmer Lake restaurants. Ahhh...There is nothing like the smell of a good burger to make you Smile Each Mile® as you are turning laps around a cold, dark lake trail at night!
Here's The Skinny: In the last 11 days I have now run a Grand Total of 147 Miles (Formula: 13.3 Miles X 11 Days = 147.18 Miles) or burned approximately 17,017 Calories during the entire course of my Personal Training Run Challenge. Let's see if I can go for the gusto and extend my training run record by another day.
